பொங்கல் விழா - 2025 Pongal Day, the traditional festival of Tamilians, was celebrated with grandeur at Thanthai Hans Roever College (Autonomous), Perambalur, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 9:45 AM on the college premises. Dr. K. Varadarajan, Founder and Chairman of the Roever Group of Institutions, presided over the function. In his speech, he encouraged college students to take a keen interest in learning and performing traditional arts and dances. He also emphasized that celebrating festivals in traditional costumes helps to preserve our culture, adding that the purpose of celebrating festivals safely is to bring happiness. Vice Chairman Mr. John Ashok Varadarajan delivered the felicitation address, and Mrs. Mahalakshmi Varadarajan inaugurated the function. The event was attended by Dr. S. Sivakumar, Principal (i/c); Director of Higher Education Mr. Satheeswaran; Head Officer Mr. Ananthan; The Controller of Examinations Dr. D. Sathya Srinivas; Dean of Arts Dr. K. Maruthadurai; Dean of Science Dr. S. Manimaran; Heads of various Departments; Professors; and over 2,000 students who came together to celebrate the Pongal festival. The festival began with traditional Tamil art performances such as Silambattam, Thappattam, Folk dances, Karagattam, Mayilattam, Kummi, and Folk songs, all performed by the college students. Singing competitions, Tug of War and Pot Breaking contests were conducted for the professors. The staff and students prepared Pongal, decorating the area with turmeric, sugarcane, and colorful rangoli. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions held during the event. Office Manager Mr. Thanupillai and the Tamil Department professors organized the event. Assistant Professor of Tamil Dr. V. Dhanalakshmi welcomed the gathering, while Dr. P.S. Senthilnathan and Dr. Maheshwari, also from the Tamil Department, hosted the function. The celebration concluded on a happy and joyous note.
