FDP REPORT A Five-Day Faculty Development Programme titled “Teaching in the Age of AI: Redefining Pedagogy for New Generation (AI–RPNG–2026)” was jointly organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and R&D Cell of Thanthai Hans Roever College (Autonomous), Perambalur, from 27 January 2026 to 31 January 2026, between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm at AVE Hall. The programme was formally inaugurated with a presidential address by Dr. K. Varadharaajen, Chairman of the Roever Group of Institutions. In his address, the Chairman highlighted the transformative power of AI and urged the teaching community to move beyond traditional methods to meet the expectations of digital-native students. The session was further enriched by the presence of Mr. John Ashok Varadharaajen, Vice Chairman of the Roever Group, who felicitated the gathering and underscored the institution's commitment to technological excellence. Dr. K. Ravichandran, Principal, and Dr. S. Sivakumar, Vice-Principal, were also present to support the initiative, emphasizing that such training is vital for maintaining academic rigor in a tech-driven era. Throughout the five-day schedule, various experts shared their specialized knowledge with the faculty. On the opening day, Dr. R. Kalaivani from Bon Secours College introduced participants to essential AI tools for teaching and assessment. This was followed by sessions from internal and external experts including Dr. M. Natarajan and Dr. R. Govindharaju from Thanthai Hans Roever College, who discussed educational applications and the ethical implications of AI in research, respectively. Dr. R. Arthur James of Bharathidasan University provided a strategic perspective on institutional rankings, while Dr. A. Francis Xavier of Winners Institute demonstrated how AI can be leveraged to improve communicative English in the classroom. Day 1 — 27.01.2026 The Five-Day Faculty Development Programme commenced on 27.01.2026 at AVE Hall. The session was handled by Dr. R. Kalaivani, Co-ordinator–IQAC and Associate Professor in Biotechnology, Bon Secours College for Women, Thanjavur, on the topic “Learning, Teaching and Assessment Practices with AI Tools.” The resource person explained the role of Artificial Intelligence in modern teaching, learning design, and assessment strategies. Various AI-based tools for question generation, rubric creation, and outcome-based evaluation were demonstrated. Faculty members were introduced to methods of integrating AI into lesson planning and continuous assessment. The session was interactive and provided practical exposure to AI-supported academic delivery. Day 2 — 28.01.2026 The second day session was delivered by Dr. M. Natarajan, Department of Computer Science, Thanthai Hans Roever College (A), on “AI Tools for Education: Exploring AI Applications in Education.” The session focused on widely used AI toolsChatGpt, Copilot, Gemini AI, Grok.AI, Magicschool.ai, Eduaide.ai, Curipod, Mentimeter, Canva, Slides.ai, Loom, GPAI for classroom teaching, content preparation, presentation design, quiz generation, and student engagement. Live demonstrations of AI platforms were shown to help faculty understand real-time usage. The speaker highlighted advantages, limitations, and verification practices while using AI-generated academic content. Participants actively engaged in tool exploration and discussion. Day 3 — 29.01.2026 On the third day, Dr. R. Arthur James, Professor and Chair, IQAC Director, Bharathidasan University, handled the topic “Institutional Ranking in Modern Educational Platform with AI and Traditional Approach.” The session covered ranking frameworks, accreditation metrics, data documentation practices, and performance indicators used in institutional evaluation. The resource person explained how AI tools can assist in data compilation, analytics, and report preparation while maintaining traditional quality benchmarks. The talk provided clarity on ranking parameters and quality assurance mechanisms relevant to higher education institutions. Day 4 — 30.01.2026 The fourth day featured Dr. R. Govindharaju, PG & Research Department of Chemistry, Thanthai Hans Roever College (A), who presented on “AI in Research: A Responsible Approach.” The session emphasized ethical and responsible use of AI in academic research. Topics included AI-assisted literature review, data support tools, plagiarism risks, validation requirements, and citation responsibility. The resource person stressed transparency, originality, and ethical compliance when using AI in research writing and analysis. Faculty gained awareness about acceptable and non-acceptable AI practices in scholarly work. Day 5 — 31.01.2026 The final day session was conducted by Dr. A. Francis Xavier, Founder and CEO, Winners Institute of Communicative English, Tiruchirappalli, on “Communicative English for Teaching and Learning.” The session focused on improving classroom communication, instructional clarity, and interactive teaching language. Practical techniques for engaging students, improving pronunciation, questioning methods, and presentation delivery were discussed. Activity-based exercises were conducted to enhance faculty confidence in communicative teaching. The programme concluded with participant feedback and interaction. Faculty members from various colleges actively participated and interacted with the speakers, gaining hands-on exposure to AI tools, assessment support systems, research validation practices, and communication strategies. The programme significantly contributed to technology-integrated teaching readiness and quality-oriented academic delivery. The FDP achieved its objectives by promoting AI awareness, improving digital teaching skills, reinforcing research ethics, and strengthening outcome-based pedagogy. Participant feedback indicated high usefulness and recommended more such capacity-building initiatives. The programme served as an important IQAC quality enhancement activity supporting continuous professional development of faculty. The successful coordination of the event by Dr. J.A.A. Jerald and Dr. N. Muruganantham ensured that faculty members left with practical strategies to implement AI-driven pedagogy. The event concluded with a strong message of adaptation, marking a significant step forward in the college's mission to redefine 21st-century education.
