Department of Tamil,English,Computer Science & Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Hyderabad organizes on "Vikaspedia as a platform for augmentation of Multilingual digital resource for Development". One-Day State-Level Workshop on "Vikaspedia – A Platform for Enhancing Multilingual Digital Resources" Thanthai Hans Rover College (Autonomous) Perambalur, in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Hyderabad, conducted a one-day state-level workshop on "Vikaspedia – A Platform for Enhancing Multilingual Digital Resources" on February 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the college premises. Dr. K. Varadharaajen, the Correspondent of Rover Educational Institutions, presided over the event. Dr. S. Sivakumar, the Acting Principal of the College, delivered the felicitation address. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. K. Maruthathurai, Dean of Arts, and Dr. S. Manimaran, Dean of Science. Ms. Vijayalakshmi, Scientist from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Hyderabad, served as the special trainer. She elaborated on C-DAC’s initiatives and how India is striving to become self-reliant in the field of computing without foreign assistance. She emphasized the crucial role of Indian citizens, particularly educators, professors, youth, and students, in this initiative. She provided an in-depth explanation of the Vikaspedia initiative, a government-recognized multilingual digital platform supporting 22 languages to document and disseminate reliable information across various sectors for the benefit of Indian citizens. She stressed the importance of contributing authentic textual and visual content to the platform, ensuring that valuable knowledge reaches people across the country. Additionally, she outlined various government schemes available for students and educational institutions participating in this initiative. She highlighted concerns over the storage of online information on foreign websites, the risks of data theft, and the spread of misinformation. Vikaspedia aims to counter these challenges by serving as a trusted national platform for preserving and sharing India's indigenous knowledge, including agricultural technologies, ancient medicine, education, cultural heritage, and government welfare programs. Ms. Vijayalakshmi encouraged students to actively contribute to this digital initiative by dedicating their time to uploading valuable information. She acknowledged the role of institutions like Thanthai Hans Rover College in motivating students to participate in such endeavours. The event saw the participation of department heads, professors, students, Crime Branch Police Officer, and many others from various colleges across Tamil Nadu, both in participated through internet The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Professor Mr.M.Devar Selvam, Head of the Tamil Department. It was coordinated by Dr.S.Suresh(Tamil Department), Mr.M.Anandakumar (Head of the English Department), Professor Mr M.G Saravanan (Computer Science Department), and other faculty members from the three departments.
