The International Conference on Sustainable Solutions and Recycling (ICSSR-2024) was held with great success on the 27th and 28th of August 2024 at Thanthai Hans Roever College (Autonomous), Elambalur, Perambalur. Organized by the Department of Chemistry, the two-day event brought together scholars, researchers, and industry professionals from across the globe to discuss innovative approaches and sustainable solutions in recycling technologies.

Day 1:

The conference began on the 27th of August with a warm registration session, followed by the inauguration ceremony. The event commenced with the traditional ‘Tamil ThaaiVaazhthu,’ invoking blessings for the prosperity of the conference. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. S. Manimaran, Dean of Science, who set the tone for the conference by highlighting the significance of sustainable research in today's world. Dr. K. Varadharaajan, Chairman of the Roever Group of Institutions, honored the Chief Guests, including Dr. SekarVijayakumar, Ph.D. Scholar at Shandong University, China; Dr. A. T. Ravichandran, Professor of Physics at National College, Trichy; Dr. R. Ramesh Babu, Director of Research at Bharathidasan University, Trichy; and Dr. Deva Arun Kumar, Ph.D. Scholar at GERMI Research Laboratory, University of Orleans, France.

In his Presidential Address, Dr. K. Varadharaajan emphasized the importance of sustainability in academic research and innovation, highlighting the pivotal role of conferences like ICSSR-2024 in driving forward sustainable development goals. Following this, Dr. S. Sivakumar, Vice Principal of the college, delivered a Felicitation Address, stressing the need for collaborative efforts in scientific research.

The Inaugural Address featured insights from Dr. SekarVijayakumar and Dr. A. T. Ravichandran, who emphasized the significant advancements in their respective fields of biomedical materials and physics. The session was further enriched by Keynote Addresses from Dr. Deva Arun Kumar and Dr. R. Ramesh Babu, focusing on laser-induced periodic surface structures and innovative recycling technologies.

The day continued with technical sessions chaired by esteemed academics, covering topics from green nanoparticle synthesis to electromagnetic shielding. A poster presentation session provided young researchers an opportunity to showcase their work, with outstanding contributions being recognized during the award distribution.

 

Day 2:

The second day of the conference, on 28th August, commenced with Session IV, chaired by Dr. M. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Srinivasan College of Arts & Science, Perambalur. The session featured a presentation by Dr. MuthuSenthil Pandian, Research Scientist at SSN Research Centre, Chennai, on the development of device-quality technologically important single crystals for optical applications.

Following this, Dr. N. Vijayan, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-NPL, New Delhi, delivered an insightful talk on the necessity of precise measurement in R&D research, chaired by Dr. T. Baraniraj, Assistant Professor at Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur.

Session V, chaired by Dr. T. Pazhanisamy, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Chemistry, THRC(A), Perambalur, continued with presentations by Dr. C. Arivazhagan, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, NIT, Trichy, and Dr. M. Karnan, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Pondicherry University. Their talks focused on innovative recycling technologies for e-waste and the synthesis and antimicrobial activity of complex organic compounds, respectively.

Award Distribution and Valedictory Ceremony

The conference concluded with an award distribution and valedictory ceremony. The best poster presentations and outstanding contributions were honored by Chief Guests. The Chief Guest delivered the valedictory address, expressing appreciation for the high level of discourse and the quality of research presented at the conference. Vote of thanks given by Dr. T. Pazhanisamy Head & Assistant Professor Department of Chemistry.

The event concluded with the playing of the National Anthem, marking the end of a successful conference. Participants praised ICSSR-2024 for its well-organized sessions, the diversity of topics covered, and the opportunity for networking and collaboration. The conference's success was also supported by the diligent efforts of the Office Manager in arranging the necessary facilities, and the collective support of all the Chemistry and Physics faculty members.

The conference has set a high benchmark for future events, reaffirming Thanthai Hans Roever College’s commitment to promoting sustainable research and innovation.
