PG & Research Department of Microbiology organizing International Conference on "Microbial Diversity, Conservation and Bioprospecting". International Conference on Microbial diversity Conservation, and Bioprospecting (ICMDCB 2024) The Department of Microbiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Thanthai Hans Roever College (Autonomous), Perambalur in collaboration with Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI) and TNSCST, successfully organized an international conference titled “International Conference on Microbial diversity Conservation, and Bioprospecting (ICMDCB 2024)” on 12th and 13th December 2024 at the college auditorium. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. K. Varadharaajen, the Chairman of the Rover Educational Group. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. T. Dhanasekaran, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Bharathidasan University, Trichy. Eminent speakers including Dr. N. Manoharan, Professor and Head, Department of Marine Biology, Bharathidasan University, Dr. S. Karthik (PDF Scholar, Dong-A University, South Korea), Dr.Santanu Das, Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, SeshadripuramGroup of Institutions, Bengalore, Dr. B. Sundararajan (PDF Scholar, Entomology, Kentucky University, USA), and Dr. Suresh MickymarayAssociate Professor, Majmaah University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) delivered keynote addresses on various aspects of microbiology. The second day of the conference witnessed the participation of Dr. S. Dinesh Kumar (Scientist, Marine Algal Research Station, Mandapam), Dr.Prasobh K Mohan (Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Thrissur, Kerala), Dr. Baskaran Ponnusamy (Principal Scientist, Oil Palm Research Centre, Univanch Palm Oil, PCL, Thailand), and Dr. K. Kannan (PDF Research Assistant, Texas Health Science Centre, Texas USA ). The conference covered a wide range of topics including the benefits of biodiversity, types and properties of marine algae, their medicinal applications, and their significance in human life. The speakers also discussed the health and environmental impacts of human-generated waste and methods to manage them. Furthermore, the conference delved into the use of CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology for various plant crop production, drug production, and the properties and applications of medicinal chemicals found in plants. Over 300 students from various universities, government and private colleges across India, along with students from the Department of Microbiology and Biosciences of Rover College, actively participated in the conference. Poster and oral presentations were also organized, providing a platform for students to showcase their talents. Winners of these competitions were awarded prizes. A significant highlight of the conference was the compilation of research abstracts from international microbiologists into a book. The valedictory function was held on the afternoon of the second day. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the various sessions (Oral and Poster Presentations). Dr. K. Priya, Head, Department of Microbiology (in-charge), delivered the welcome address. Dr. A. Thirumurugan, Assistant Professor and the conference coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks. The Department of Microbiology, Nutrition, and Dietetics faculty and students were responsible for the successful organization of the conference.
