PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry,established in the year 2003, conducts two-year post-graduate program and three-year under-graduate program. The department provides world-class facilities for research and learning and offers courses from emerging and traditional academic areas pertaining to Chemistry. There is more than 250 Students learning Chemistry in UG, PG and M. Phil. programmes. Currently, 7 Ph.D Scholars are doing their research in Chemistry. Since the inception of the department, over 700 students have taken their Master’s degree; It is indeed a pleasure to report that alumni of the Department are holding key positions in the industry and academic institutions. At present seven faculty members are working in the department.

• The curriculum has been suitably modified to meet the challenging needs of the Indian Society. A certain measure of flexibility has been built into the new system, which enables the students to make their own choice of subjects from a wide spectrum of courses.
• We have a well-furnished and equipped laboratory.
• The department is manned by 7 qualified and dedicated teaching staff members (6 Ph.D, and 1 pursuing Ph. D 1) and 2 suitably qualified technical staff.
• The department has 5 research guides (recognized for both Ph. D. & M. Phil), more than 60 students have been awarded M. Phil degree.
• The department to its honor has more than 100 research papers published in National and International journals with high impact factor.
• After gaining autonomy status the syllabus was revised based on the latest developments of science technology.
• The students are encouraged and counseled beginning and their mind frame are developed to take on competitive exams like UGC/CSIR-NET, GATE, SET, TNPSC and IAS etc.
• Outgoing students are always encouraged to pursue PG degree in good spirits, to fine tune that our curriculum is set in high standard.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT:

• To make the course, more job-fetching and entrepreneurship promoting, the Department organized Seminar, Conference and workshop regularly.
• To gain theoretical knowledge lively, we have arranged a chemical industry visit.
• We have well equiwell-equipped consists of muffle furnace, water analyzer, gas analyzer, hot air oven, magnetic stirrer, latest digital instruments like potential meter ,colourimeter balance etc., to carry out the experiments and research work.
• Our students were participated international and National level Science Exhibitions, Quiz Competitions etc., and awarded many prizes.
• Our Students are placed in various chemical companies like Cement industry, Paint Company, Pharmaceutical industry and Water treatment plants etc.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

• After the successful completion of B.Sc., Chemistry, students having wide opportunities in various fields.
• They are having good opportunity as a chemist in analytical and clinical laboratories, water purification plants.
• They may employ in chemical, dyeing and pharmaceutical industries.
