Commerce is an essential Component of National Development and Wealth Creation. It is a Stream of education which is the study of Trade and Business activities which helps the Students to draw conclusion about the financial Position of the Organization. It is the Whole System of the Economy that Constitutes an environment for the Business.

The System includes Legal, Economic, Political, Social, Cultural and Technological systems that are in operation in any Country or Internationally. It also plays a vital role in the modern economic growth. Commerce has a wide Scope that would bring the students both successes as well as Financial Security easily. Commerce is a Index of Human Progress.

Commerce with Computer Application has been acquiring greater Importance in the Present Period of Globalization especially in the field of Entrepreneurial Development, E-Commerce and International Business. Knowledge of Commercial Procedures has become almost meaningless without Computer training. The need has arisen to train Students of Commerce in Office automation and Computerized accounts. To meet this need the Department Offers B.Com & B.Com(Computer Applications).

Our Department is a Pioneer department of our College which offers B.Com started in the year 1985, M.Com in the year 1989,B.Com(CA) in 2007, M.Phil in 2002 & Ph.D in 2011.The Department holds the credit of 35 years record since its establishment in nurturing the future management executives to lead the corporate world with all theoretical and practical inputs. Our department is a Full-Fledged Research Department with a strength of 9 Staff Members and all of them are Ph.D degree holders.

To create a centre of academic excellence in commerce education and research with the purpose of fulfilling the society requirements towards work and life.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission is to facilitate the learners to gain knowledge and experience through academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and to develop their personality with a strong Value base.

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide adequate basic understanding about commerce education among the students.
  • To prepare students to utilize opportunities being newly created in the commerce and management profession.
  • To train the students in communication skills effectively.
  • To develop appropriate skills in the students so as to make them competent and provide themselves self employment.
  • To inculcate entrepreneurial skills.
  • To facilitate learning of Commerce inputs which will reflect the current trends and to impart skills to enhance the employability of the students.

There are 300 students in the UG,PG, M.Phil and 15 Scholars in the Ph.D Programme in the
Department. The Pass Percentage of the Students in the final examination is 70% for UG and 95% for PG. The Department has Produced 50 M.Phil and 5 Ph.D.degree holders for the Last five years. The Students of the Department have been Securing University ranks consistently in UG and PG.

  • To develop adequate entrepreneurial Skills among Students and help to understand the Process of establishing and developing an enterprise.

M.Phil

  • To enable the Scholars to Understand the Basic Concept of Research Methods.
  • To learn the Concepts of Management in general, and to identify the issues in Commerce areas.

The Staff are actively involved in Research and the UGC has sanctioned two Minor Research Projects for the members of the staff. The Staff Members of the department are actively taking part in National and International Seminars conferences and acting as Resource persons, and Publishing research articles in reputed Indexed Journals. They periodically participate in the faculty development Programme.
